Grand Ole Opry Apologizes for “Hammered” Elle King’s Dolly Parton Tribute

Not everyone had a positive experience at the Grand Ole Opry this past weekend. The official social media account of the renowned country music venue, the Grand Ole Opry, issued an apology on Saturday due to singer Elle King's language during a tribute concert honoring Dolly Parton's 78th birthday. King performed Parton's "Marry Me" but seemed to forget the lyrics, substituting in, "I don't know the lyrics to these things in this town... Don't tell Dolly 'cause it's her birthday."

In a video shared on social media, King also announced, "I'll tell you one thing more: Hi, my name is Elle King, and I'm intoxicated."

King was one of several performers scheduled for the concert, and both online and in-person audience members expressed their dissatisfaction with her apparent inebriation and choice of language.

A Twitter user who attended the event remarked, "Elle King ruined the night with her horrible, drunk, and profane performance. Dolly Parton would've been mortified. For our first time at The Opry, it was a shame we all had to witness that."

Expressing further disappointment, the same user tweeted, "It was such a letdown to spend $300 on tickets for a show where one of the artists spoiled the entire night. I mean, it's The Opry, the greatest country venue in the world. That performance was like a lackluster karaoke performer wasted out of their minds. Awful.
